MASSIVE ATTACK -HELIGO LAND
Massive Attack are
releasing their fifth studio album ‘Heligoland’ on 8th February. Massive
Attack are a seminal group of musical innovators whose early work
detonated the Bristol music scene of the early 90’s and unwittingly gave
birth to “trip-hop”. The group formed in 1987 around their influential
and legendary Dug Out club and Jamaican-style soundsystem. The club
played a groundbreaking blend of hip hop, new wave reggae, early house
and techno which shaped their hugely acclaimed 1991 debut, Blue Lines.
The new album 'Heligoland' features guest vocals from Damon Albarn, Hope
Sandoval, Martina Topley-Bird, Guy Garvey and Tunde Adebimpe. Long time
cohort Horace Andy makes a return alongside Massive Attack founding
members Robert Del Naja and Grant Marshall. The cover artwork features an
original image by Robert Del Naja.
A very limited Deluxe Edition set will be released on Feb 22nd and
includes:
• Triple gatefold sleeve featuring exclusive artwork
• Three 180-gram heavyweight records, including the album across two
records, plus a third record containing four exclusive tracks/mixes (see
below)
• Full album on black glitter covered CD
• 28pp booklet, printed on silk 130-gram stock, featuring exclusive MA
artwork and photography

VAMPIRE
WEEKEND "CONTRA"
Some bands stay in a holding pattern their whole careers.
Others jerk the steering wheel hard and fly off the road. On their
second album,Vampire Weekend do neither.Or maybe they do both. 'I think
we sound more like Vampire Weekend than we did on the first record',
says drummer Christopher Tomson.‘Contra’pulls off a series of impressive
feats: It‘s bustling with fresh ideas and yet it sounds immediately
familiar; it‘s heavily layered but taut and kinetic; it chews ravenously
through sound palettes and rhythms, and yet it‘s nimble and assured; it‘s
still breezy, and yet it smolders with a new found emotional heft. 'It‘s
sadder than the first one, a bit more sentimental', says singer Ezra
Koenig. The songs are catchy, fast, twinkling, clattering – the darker
themes of loss, doubt and regret accumulate almost imperceptibly, but
they land a powerful blow. Ideas for this record had been bubbling since
before the release of their debut. The band started recording in January
2009, only two weeks after finishing an 18-month world tour supporting
their first record. They had initially planned to work in California,
feeling that the new record‘s spiritual home was the West Coast. The
decision to work in New York, however, ultimately provided the freedom
and perspective to properly realize their vision.
(released in week 2)

JOHAN -PERGOLA
and Fall, How Does It Feel en Day Is Done, nu dan eindelijk op vinyl
verkrijgbaar.
(released in week 53)

TOM WAITS -ORPHANS
A veritable godsend for Tom Waits fans (and a fun place for the
uninitiated to plunge in feet first), ORPHANS is a 54-track set that
brings together previously unheard material from various stages of
Waits's career. The songs are grouped by style. The first disc, BRAWLERS,
contains raucous stomps and uptempo jams, the second disc, BAWLERS, is
full of lyrical balladry, and the third, BASTARDS, is a hodge-podge of
experimental tunes and covers. Many of the songs are outtakes from
studio albums, while others are the results of outside projects or
one-off oddities. Waits's unique sensibility is in full flower
throughout the set: his gruff croon, barks, and howls; the insistent
clanking of strange percussion; and his evocative, detail-rich lyrics
are all on ample display. From the spooky rave-up of "Lie to Me" through
the heartrending beauty of "Shiny Things" and the familiar strains of "Goodnight
Irene," to his off-kilter cover of Daniel Johnston's "King Kong,"
ORPHANS is packed with spectacular surprises. Add beautiful packaging
and a lyric book complete with rare photos, and ORPHANS becomes another
must-have document from one of music's most imaginative and consistently
enjoyable artists. This album is finally being released on vinyl by Anti
Records. The box set CONTAINS 7 LPs.
(released in week 51)

EDITORS -IN THIS LIGHT & ON THIS EVENING
British indie-rock four-piece
The Editors enjoyed great critical and commercial success with their
previous two records, most notably 2007's 'An End Has A Start'. Building
on their previous work, 'In This Light And On This Evening' is produced
by Flood (U2, Smashing Pumpkins) and represents a band blending raw
musical dynamics with greater anthemic qualities than ever before.
Includes the single 'Papillon'.
(released in week 42)

PEARL JAM -"BACKSPACER"
For its ninth album,
Pearl Jam chose to go back to working with producer Brendan O'Brien. The
new album is the group's first album to be produced by O'Brien since the
band's 1998 album, Yield. "At this point, I think we're willing to let
somebody cut the songs up a little bit," says lead vocalist Eddie Vedder.
"In the past, Brendan would say, 'It's a great song, but I think you
should do it in a different key', and we'd say no. But now that we've
heard Bruce [Springsteen] has listened to his suggestions, I think we
will too." Bassist Jeff Ament said, "He brings a brutally honest
approach to what he thinks is working and what isn't, and it really
moves things along...We don't get waded down with ideas that maybe
aren't even that good. He's one of the few people outside of the band
that we trust with our music, and we're really, really looking forward
to making this record."
(released in week 39)

MUSE -"THE RESISTANCE"
In terms of sound and sonic vision ‘The Resistance’ is their most
ambitious long-player yet, which is clearly saying something. They have
blown up the robo-funk/monster riff/stadium space rock sound of ‘Black
Holes’ and widened their viewfinder even further to take in an even
greater horizon of sound. For Muse, reverting to a successful template
would be simply meaningless.
At this moment only the limited
edition box sets contains the album on vinyl (as well as the cd, dvd and
usb stick). A seperate LP version has been announced for January 2010
release.
(released in week 38)

JOHN FOGERTY -
"THE BLUE RIDGE RANGERS RIDE AGAIN"
What happens when one American legend takes on 12 American classics? If
that legend is John Fogerty, the simple answer is musical magic. On The
Blue Ridge Rangers Rides Again, Fogerty reinvents such treasures as the
Everly Bros.' "When Will I Be Loved" (a stunning duet with Bruce
Springsteen), Rick Nelson's "Garden Party" and John Denver's "Back Home
Again" with uncommon grace and unbridled zest. As longtime Fogerty fans
will recall, the Blue Ridge Rangers made their first appearance in 1973
when John released an album of classic covers (including "Jambalaya" and
"She Still Thinks I Care") under that moniker. The name was deceptive:
the Rangers were Fogerty and Fogerty alone. He played all the
instruments including drums. The thought of revisiting the Blue Ridge
Rangers as a vehicle to create another set of beloved covers has never
been far from Fogerty's mind. "I thought about it at least once a
month," he says. "I told myself if I ever get to do this again, I'm
going to have real guys playing; I'd find the best guys I could and have
fun and so that's what happened this time." Indeed, on The Blue Ridge
Rangers Rides Again, Fogerty surrounds himself with such top-flight
musicians as Buddy Miller (guitar), Greg Leisz (pedal and lap steel,
mandolin and dobro), Jason Mowery (fiddle, mandolin and dobro) and Kenny
Aronoff (drums). They circle and entwine each other in joyous musical
call and responses (complete with hooting and hollering), weaving in and
out of each song. Call it a country record if you must, but it's really
the sound of America. And the sound of Fogerty: real instruments, real
talent. No artifice.
(released in week 36)

ARCTIC MONKEYS "HUMBUG"
Arctic Monkeys’ third album is ready to further
consolidate them as one of the greatest young bands on the planet. The
new album ‘Humbug’, which was produced by Josh Homme in the Mojave
desert and by James Ford in Brooklyn, showcases a brooding and majestic
new sound for the band. The LP has a gatefold sleeve.
(released in week 35)

ERIC CLAPTON AND STEVE
WINWOOD
"LIVE FROM MADISON GARDEN"
History rocked and rock made history during a sold-out three-gig stand
at Madison Square Garden in late February 2008 when icons Eric Clapton
and Steve Winwood performed a concert together for the first time since
their all-too-brief days in the legendary Blind Faith in 1969. Whether
they will ever team again is unknown. With Eric Clapton and Steve
Winwood Live From Madison Square Garden, fans everywhere are able to
experience the sound and the glory of a performance on that famous stage
by two of rock's greatest artists. This three-LP edition set includes an
exclusive lithograph featuring a photo taken by Danny Clinch at the
legendary shows.
(released in week 32)

CORNERSHOP -JUDY SUCKS A LEMON FOR BREAKFAST
Perhaps best known for their 1997 single 'Brimful Of Asha'
- which was propelled to the UK number one slot by remixer Fatboy Slim -
this is the fifth studio album from Cornershop, released some seven
years after 2002's 'Handcream For A Generation'. With a renewed energy,
Tjinder Singh and Ben Ayers deliver an album of boundary crossing indie
pop, taking in everything from psychedelic rock through to Punjabi folk
while managing to maintain their ability to write the perfect feel-good
pop song.
(released in week 31)

NEIL YOUNG "FORK IN THE ROAD"
Rock and Roll Hall of Famer
Neil Young is stirring things up again. This time he is rolling on down
the road not only with an auto-centric concept album but with his own
electric ride. Fork In The Road, whose largely ecocar– themed songs he
debuted in concert during the past year, will get a promotional push
from the 1959 Lincoln Continental Young has converted to hybrid
technology and which he plans to drive to Washington, D.C. With Fork In
The Road as current as today’s headlines, the controversial Neil Young
is still rockin’ the free world and once more is taking the road less
travelled.
